Baseball

Tony Saladino III : Tony Saladino comes from a local legendary baseball family, which is responsible for the Saladino Tournament (28 years and going) and the Saladino Award. Tony, a former scout in the Chicago White Sox Organization also worked as a director/instructor at Red Berry's Baseball World. Tony has spent the last 15 years coaching and teaching youth sports.

 

Donny Scolaro Jr. : Donny has participated in the game of baseball his entire life. He played high school baseball at Brandon High School and started all three years. He won the prestigious Saladino Tournament MVP Award in 1990. He went on to play at the collegiate level at Florida Southern where he was an All American. He then was drafted in 1994 by the Houston Astros. He played in their minor leagues for several years. After his professional baseball career ended, he went on to coach the Durant High School baseball team for over 5 years. He has been coaching youth sports for over 10 years and has been an active board member at South Brandon Little League for over 6 years.

 

Tony Saladino Jr. (Consultant/Advisor) : Tony and his wife Bertha are the founders, organizers, directors and curators of the annual Hillsborough County High Schools' Saladino Baseball Tournament which has been held since 1981. He is the sponsor of the annual Saladino Baseball Award presented to Hillsborough County's best senior baseball player. The Saladino Award has been awarded since 1971. Tony has been a teacher and coach in the Hillsborough County School system since 1958. He was the Chairman for the Al Lopez statue committee, which was unveiled in 1992. Tony was inducted into the Italian-American Sports Hall of Fame in 1993. Tony's other accomplishments and awards include Sports Illustrated Hometown Hero in 1995, Who's Who Among America Teachers in 1997, the University of Tampa's Alumni Achievement Award in 2002, Tampa Bay Rays/Tropicana Field Hispanic Heritage

Award, Tampa Tribune's People's Champion Award in 2007, Bay News 9's Everyday's Hero Award in 2007 and named in Cambridge's Who's Who in 2007

Softball

Melissa Sigmon : Melissa has spent most of her life around the game of softball. She played for Brandon High School, earning several All County awards. She also played for the University of South Florida. USF was ranked 11th in the nation at this time. Upon graduation, Melissa played in the Women's Professional Fastpitch League for the Georgia Pride. Her coaching career began in 2000 at Durant High School where she led the Cougars to a State Final Four appearance. Other accomplishments in her 8 years as a Hillsborough county head coach include two district championships, 6 regional tournament appearances with one regional championship. Melissa has also coached at Newsome High School and is currently the head softball coach at Plant High School.
